A super fun and festive snack mix that you can easily whip together in just minutes perfect for Valentine’s Day!  A delicious salty/sweet combination of pretzels, cereal squares, popcorn, peanuts and chocolate candies that makes a fun snack for kids (and adults!), a hit at class parties or even festive gifts for friends and neighbors.  Such an easy snack that can be thrown together in just minutes with only a few simple ingredients.

The best part is you can customize this mixture however you’d like!  Throw in your favorite nuts, add in some mini marshmallows, swap out the M&Ms for chocolate chips, you really can’t go wrong.  This festive snack is great for any holiday too, just use different colored candies and sprinkles!

How to Make this Snack Mix

In a large bowl, mix together the following ingredients:

  • mini pretzels – any shape pretzel will work (I used mini twists), but just make sure they are bite-size pretzels small enough for the mix.  Pretzel sticks, nuggets, and snaps all make great options.
  • cereal squares – I used rice chex mix in this mix, but you could use wheat chex, corn chex or any toasted cereal.  Multi-grain Cheerios work great too, my daughter loves them!
  • popcorn – my favorite is Skinny Pop popcorn, but any type of popcorn will work in this recipe.
  • peanuts – feel free to use your favorite type of nuts (or seeds) in this.  I used lightly salted peanuts, but almonds, walnuts, cashews, pecans, pepitas and even sunflower seeds all make great options!
  • chocolate candies – I love the pops of red and pink that the Valentine M&Ms add to the mix, but you could also use chocolate chips to make this mix sweet.  I love Lily’s chocolate chips as they are gluten-free, vegan and sweetened with stevia making the sugar content really low.  They taste delicious!

Super simple and so festive!  I also threw in some fun sprinkles that I had leftover from my strawberry banana donuts and grain-free sugar cookies that I made for Valentine’s Day.  You could even do this for Halloween and swap out the chocolate candies for some candy corn!

Substitutions and Variations

  • Savory– try swapping out the chocolate candies and adding in some crackers, bagel chips, sesame sticks, rye chips, a little Worcestershire sauce, fresh herbs or some seasoning salt. Check out my savory snack mix recipe!
  • Sweet – this mix is already sweet thanks to the chocolate, but you could toss this mix with some maple syrup or even a little brown sugar. See my caramelized notes below.
  • Kid-friendly – throw in some Cheerios, cheese flavored goldfish crackers, cheez-its mini marshmallows in place of the popcorn. Have fun with it!
  • Caramelized – skip the chocolate candies and toss everything with a little maple syrup and give a good stir. Pop the cereal mixture in an even layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the oven for about 10 minutes then let cool for a delicious snack!
  • Spicy – for a more spicy mix, add in some cayenne pepper, sriracha or hot sauce.
  • Seasonings – if you are wanting a more savory mix, try adding a teaspoon garlic powder or a teaspoon onion powder to your mix along with some melted butter and Worcestershire sauce. These flavors taste amazing together.
